Why should you think IAS ?

- Civil Services form the ‘STEEL FRAMEWORK OF INDIA’. These services are vital for the execution of policies and programs of the Union Government of India and also assist the Government by giving valuable inputs to maintain dynamism and inclusiveness in the policies. UPSC conducts an annual examination for recruiting youth to the civil services of India. More than a million Indian citizens appear in the aforesaid exam due the following reasons:
- The biggest motivation to appear in the exam is the urge to ‘SERVE THE MOTHERLAND’ . No other motivation is required to those who have this fire within to work for the betterment of the country.
- However, various other perks are associated with the post of a civil servant. They are:
- Free Government accommodation.
- Government vehicle with a red beacon light.
- Respect from the society.
- Decent pay and allowances.
- Pen is the mightiest weapon in the hands of a civil servant.
- Paid study leave for 2 years.
However, there are a few aspects regarding the civil services that are perceived to be ‘NEGATIVE’ by the few critics:
- Frequent transfers.
- Political control and interference.
- Low pay scale as compared to the private sector.
- Security threat in Naxal affected and other insurgent areas.
Even though there may be some areas where the civil servants may not enjoy their ‘COMFORT ZONE’ , but those areas won’t negate the satisfaction that one derives after serving the country and seeing the results at the ground level.
